We’re very excited to be taking part in Bowie Night – a celebration of David Bowie’s music and the links to Jeremy Deller’s work in English Magic, at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. We’ll be making a large, collaborative collage/drawing, creating surreal characters inspired by Bowie – shape-shifter and master of reinvention!
Just as Bowie took ideas, styles and lyrics from many sources and brought them into the mainstream, we’ll cut and paste from magazines, newspapers and postcards, transforming existing images into something new. There will be unexpected collisions of pictures, drawings and text, and any rules are there to be broken! Materials will include coloured, holographic and patterned papers, lots of found images from different sources, glitter, pens, coloured pencils and other drawing materials, tape, butterfly clips.…and our imaginations!
BDC member and Bristol-based artist Ellen Wilkinson will be leading the drop-in workshop.
It promises to be a really fun night, with performances by The (Greatness Of The Magnificence) Fantasy Orchestra, art, talks and more, including a chance to strike a pose in the photo booth and a prize for the best Bowie inspired fancy dress.
Unfortunately the event is already sold out, so for those of you who are lucky enough to have a ticket, we’ll see you there for lots of collage/drawing action!
